why have a computer control the rear wiper or even the tow bar lights.[/quote]
My newest car is a 1990 205 diesel, old school technology, bulletproof engine and cheap as chips (the spud variety that is) to maintain. It looks like an old shed with its 'hand-painted coachwork' but it makes me smile when I hear of Mr X the neighbours Rangerover regularly breaks down and costs 100's, even 1000's to service or repair.
My oldest car is my '57 Landie - just Meccano set for big boys really. Ain't no gizmo's on that old beauty - plenty of copper, brass and the odd piece of leather tho. It tickles the MOT man every time cos he says it makes a nice change from the endless modern crap he works with every day. Wipers? - oh don't need to check those, washers? - nope, don't need those either, fog lights? -er nope, ah! seatbelts?...er, sorry, hasn't got those, emission test? - don't be silly, it could single-handedly punch a hole in the ozone layer (if I drove it enough). Road tax? there you are Sir, here's your free tax disc.
That's the downside of stuff packed with the latest technology, it's usually ends up costing far more than the initial purchase, unless you dispose of the sorry remains (usually it's after about 13months).
Aah, thats better - rant over.
Cheers,Ike
