Mobile phone advice sought.

I have been using an old nokia flip phone for ages, it has a good loud ring and the bluetooth is compatible with my aging ford mondeo radio.

Last year I got a samsung smart phone, so I could be in the 21 century with everyone else. I liked it, but found out too late that it is not compatible with ford audio.

Bought a iphone 4s, which is compatible with ford audio but has a very low volume ringer and I just don't like it anyway.

Getting one to match up with ford audio my be a problem, but does anyone have any suggestions for a smart phone at not an outrageous price that has a good loud ringer, good volume and if not compatible with ford audio, has an aftermarket hands free kit available.?

I have tried all the tips I can find on t'net and can't get decent volume.

If it's in my pocket, sometimes I miss the call. If it's on the bench or desk, not so bad.

An iphone 4s and the Samsungs all have Bluetooth to enable a phone to connect. Bluetooth is standard there are no Ford proprietary versions.

So have you got the phones Bluetooth turned on...sorry if its a daft question but you never know. If yes have you paired the phone to the Ford Bluetooth.

And is the Ford Bluetooth turned on as well. I have no knowledge of Fords as its 30 yrs since I had one.

I believe you are mistaken. If you enquire I think you will find there is no bluetooth standard

The bluetooth is not the problem, it is working perfectly, on the iphone and ford audio. The problem with the iphone is the lack of volume.

Just to clarify the Bluetooth issue. There are compatibility issues with some Bluetooth implementations and certain car manufacturers models. There are Bluetooth standards but there are some implementation details in different stacks that cause issues. (I used to work in mobile phone development).

So am I. It doesn't seem to be a priority for them, I enquired at the local dealer and phoned Ford UK.

Somebody told me that more expensive phones work with a wider range of radios.

I tried a £600 Samsung this morning, not that I would ever spend that much on a phone.

pick up a 2nd hand more up to date head unit - you can pick up a fairly decent one off fleabay for less than 25 quid + another 20 for a fitting kit - I`ve got one in my old tranny(van not g/b/friend :lol: ) and can use voice dial etc

Bluetooth is a standard owned and managed by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group ( Bluetooth SIG ) which comprises Ericson, Nokia, IBM and another Co I can't recall just now. They publish the standards for Bluetooth and extensions such as Bluetooth Smart. Current Version is Bluetooth 4.2. A standard enforced by technical specification and contracts and just as good and clear a standard as any from say IEEE. So you may want to check on Fords application of the standard.

Volume issues. I can only comment that on my Mercedes the volume control below the Command/Radio/CD/Sat Nav device works for both radio/media and telephone calls. That is it works separately to adjust volume depending which service is being used. So each volume level remains as previously set for that service independently of the volume currently set. The merc also plays calls through the cars loudspeakers and not through the phone and I thought/ expected in my inexperience all cars do this. It seems to me to be illogical to expect the phone to play a loud call noise above the car noise level. But what do I know as I haver not driven a Ford for 30yrs.

I've had iPhones from 4 to 6 and they all had very loud ring tones at full volume.
Have you had your hearing checked ?
Maybe time to get a newer car model too?
On my cars once the Bluetooth is paired the cars volume control adjusts the speaker volume

The ford uses the car speakers.

It is confusing I know. I mentioned two problems in one thread.

The bluetooth problem only affects other phones, not the iphone.

The volume problem only affects the iphone when carried in pocket.

Have you had your hearing checked ?

It's not as good as it was, hence the importance of a good loud ring.

Maybe time to get a newer car model too?

I hope to find a less expensive solution.

Well, changing the phone is probably cheaper than changing the car - like changing the tie, rather than the suit

Out of interest, have you tried a 'hard' reset of the iPhone? This doesn't delete any data, just forces the iPhone to quit and restart in the same way that hitting Ctrl/Alt/del twice forces a Windows PC to restart. On the iPhone, you press and hold the home and power buttons together, until the Apple logo appears on the screen - takes about 6 seconds - then release the buttons and let it restart in the usual way.

FWIW my wife still has a 4s and it's plenty loud enough.

I hadn't, but I have now. Unfortunately it didn't help. Many thanks for the suggestion.
