Picked up this board from Yandles many, many years ago.

Used a small amount for some lovely tool handles and similar, but the rest of the board has stayed in my wood store untouched for a long time.

I vaguely recall it being marked up as Brazilian Rosewood, but could be misremembering, anyone good with timber identification ?

It's exceedingly heavy, and I recall the grain being very interlocking, but takes an excellent finish.

first and third of those pix look like Kingwood - very dense, sinks in water, hard, resilient, brown to black, rare, was favourite of C18th French cabinet makers

Mexican rosewood is also called bocote, only your 3rd picture looks like it to me, it has a very swirly interlocked grain yellow and brown are the main colours, quite hard and smells of gherkins when cut.

I'm confused. You would think they are four different boards . All I can add is that they are all rosewood of some kind and that's a big field. Sadly very hard to get hold of now.

First and second photos are front and back (one side that has been exposed to light more is darker), third is end grain and fourth is side grain, all the same board :)

Contemplating putting it up for sale, but first job was to try and confirm the id, next is to get an idea of value, and whether to sell as one piece or smaller pieces depending on who might want it and what for !

It's currently 42" x 11" x 2" and weighs a ton !
