My build of two timber framed buildings to use as garages and log stores etc is somewhat delayed by me being excessively busy. In progress but not usable yet. I want to work over the winter on my current garage (a 3 bay barn) which is becoming a kitchen / family room and ....long story short I need somewhere dry to store some motorbikes, ride on mower etc temporarily. I need regular access to them so off site storage is not an option.

I'm thinking about getting a metal garage and putting it on one of the slabs where one of oak frames will be erected next year. This will then be re-located to replace three dilapidated timber sheds. It will be inconspicuous then. Cost runs from about £1100 to £1500. Guarantee of up to 20 years.

We came to the metal garage idea having thought about a temporary canvas garage (tent basically) to see us through the winter and found that a metal building is not much more expensive than a heavy duty tent. Where we live is rather windy so whatever we do needs to resist that.

I am aware that metal buildings can be prone to condensation. Size wise I am looking at 10 or 12 feet wide by about 19 to 21 feet long. Door options are twin, up and over or roller. Roller is the most expensive.

Any brilliant insights or warnings for me?

Thanks. Yes, I already planned to insulate the roof. The floor was built with a dpm. I was wondering if amyone has any other do's and don'ts.

I have abandoned this idea for now. I downloaded the instructions from the net and the assembly looks fiddly beyond words. Hundreds of parts. Since I want to relocate it in under a year, I think I will make do and build a wooden one in due course.

Sounds the best plan AJB. I put a concrete base down for one, for a doctor who said he and his son would erect it. A month on he asked me to go round and do the job  lots of bits missing parts bent, they had a hard time with it. Finished in the end.
The guy next door put a tin shed up last year, I think there may be one panel left not with a bump in it. :(
