Hi everyone

I've been lurking around this forum for some time, and in the process I've picked up a lot of useful information and advice, so I thought it was about time I registered.

I've been dithering for weeks over whether to buy a planer/thicknesser. Axminster were recently doing an offer on their Perform P/T but I missed out on that one by the time I'd made a decision. :( However. given the number of postings on this subject, I've now started to think seriously about separate units (however, both space and budget are limited!). I've looked at lots of thicknessers, and the Metabo DH330 is currently on offer on ebay (Transtools). I've read the spec and it looks good. It seems to compare well with similar machines from dwelt, Axminster and Makita.

I think that one or two forum members may have this machine - does anyone have a view on it? I would appreciate any comments.

Thanks for your help.

Les

P.S I'll add my tools to the Forum Users' lists soon.

If you can find the space I would definitely recommend the separates route.

Hi Les, welcome to the forum. Agree with Neil totally, if you can afford seperates (and often more importantly have the space) definatley go for that.

I actually have the Metabo DH330 too and its brilliant IMO. Heavy little (well, not so little) blighter and totally solid. Mine was perfectly calibrated right out of the box too, which NEVER happens!

It's very robust and you just get the feeling it's a quality porduct when you use it, and the finish it leaves is excellant. Not only that, but Metabo stuff rarely goes worng, and even if it does, it's got a 3 year warrenty. If you can get it on offer, I would thouraghly reccomend it. Only one thingh though, never use it with out proper dust extraction, otherwise the chippings clog up the blades and rollers, and eh....bad things happen :? (but thats really the same with any thicknesser, not just the metabo).

I also purchased a Metabo DH330

What a pleasure! :D

Would recommend it any time - in fact I bought it from Transtools. No probs with snappy delivery - and I like the 330 wide at the right price.

Good luck with your selection.

Cheers

Guys

Thanks very much for the feedback, and sorry for not replying earlier.

Looks like the Metabo is a good choice. I've downloaded the manual too. As you may have guessed, I'm still dithering, but getting closer. The trouble is, I've been reading too many posts about expensive hand planes from across the pond - especially bevel up jacks and smoothers!

Anyway, I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi

I've done the deed at last ...... but it wasn't the Metabo thicknesser.

Earlier today, I decided that I was DEFINITELY going to order the Metabo as soon as I got home from work - no more dithering. When I finally got home this evening I logged onto the Axminster web site to have a quick look at their CT330 thicknesser. But, just to confuse things, they had the Perform planer/thicknesser on offer again, so I was back where I started a couple of weeks ago!

Anyway, this time I've made a decision and I've ordered the Perform. I'm sure that, if other members' experiences are anything to go by, it should serve my needs. The Metabo would have been nice, but ... in the end, the arguments about space and budget have won the day.

Once again, thanks for your advice, and I'll let you know how I get on.

Les :D
