Metabo KSU400 saw stand

HI all,

I bought a Metabo KSU 400 saw stand at the D & M tool show last year to use with my Makita ls1013. I thought it was very well made but one thing lets it down the rails that fit on your saw to attach it to the stand only have plastic clips and so far I am on my 3rd set now they have been replaced by Metabo twice. The plastic just isn't up to the leverage thats put on them with the weight of the saw over hanging.

If anyone else has this stand let me know how you have got on and is there a way around this problem. I looked at the Dewalt stand too which was cheaper but didn't look as well made anyone know how they fix the saw to the stand are they plastic too.

Well being a festool owner I am not a Dewalt van in mater of fact I hate Dewalt waist of money but any way of all the rubbish things they make the stand isn't that bad and the answer to your question is YES they are plastic and spring loaded so you place the mitre saw onto the rails make sure it pushed up at the front and then push the back side down and wait for a loud CLICK. To remove it the grap the large plastic handles at the back pull them in and lift the back side up first and slide it toward you and lift of completely.

As far as I know and even festool owners as you can see a festool owner owns a dewalt say they are decent stands and the plastic is robust enough

The solution to your problem is to find another Stand attachment part.

What I mean there are many ways how these stands try to make it universal for all chop saw to be attached to the stand well I know that a lot use these metal hooks which you tighten up and it clamps the rails on the stand which will work with your Metabo stand. So if I was you I would throw away the attachment don't bother with them they are rubbish and get some new attachments if you don't know what I mean ill show you a photo if you want.

The other option is to get a new stand but that's a waist of money so ill would stick with new attachment properly cost you 20 quid. To be fair you should of done your research and found that many people don't own that metabo stand and maybe for a reason?!?!?

Thanks JMB but that is a bit unfair I had done quiet a bit of research before I bought it and I had not seen anyone anywhere slagging off the Metabo stand more people have the Dewalt stand obviously they sell more, Dewalt are like the Ford of tools . The quality of the actual stand is very good but the quality of the saw attachments is something you can only spot with regular use Im afraid.

I looked at the Dewalt but like you I normally avoid Dewalt as it is rubbish but they do sell the odd thing thats good.

Regards getting another fitting it will be hard to find one that will fit the Metabo stand , one thing I did think of was to maybe drill hole through the stand and attachment then I could bolt the saw on for extra security.

Thanks for the pics I can see from that its a slightly better design it looks like the yellow metal actually supports the plastic.

Another thing I have done on mine is fix the rails back to front because I didnt want the large rubber knobs you see in the picture to be in my way while standing at the saw this may have affected them you never know.

I didnt mean to be harsh! I to like Metabo and always thought it was a top brand but I have soon come to realise that they have started to make rubbish stuff.

I have a universal stand also for my makita chopsaw I know for a fact that the attachment will fit on your stand. So before you do any modifying I will send a photo of what mine looks like. I own a Kapex and both Kapex stands the Set and UG-kapex stand and I always use that now my large makita compound stand doesn't get used much now. Still good saw though.


I see what you mean about the large rubber knobs looking at it it shouldnt make a difference but to be honest the large knobs dont stick out as far as the shop saw does it so really would they get in the way?!?!?

As you can see you might need to add plastic or something to stop scratching like you matabo has either end maybe even use the metabo ones. I never bothered because it never left the stand.

I also added a photo of the mitre saw it was attched to same as your but mine is gathering dust lol and making a mess.

Yeah they look good as they are all metal.

I just had my Dad around for fathers day and he is a retired Electrical/engineer and has invented many things over his lifetime so showed him and together we had a simple idea.

If I make a U shaped metal bracket (drawn in RED) this will go over the plastic fixed with self tappers or bolt and reinforce the plastic. The weak point on the Metabo design is where you see those two metal pin/rivets that go through the ali to hold the plastic in place the plastic breaks under load right across the rivet hole.

PS Im a Festool fan too Im joiner1970 on FOG I didnt buy the Kapex thought it was too good for site work. I was offered one for £750 brand new from a dealer with a spare blade about two years ago, but went for the Makita instead which was half that I know its not as good but it does the job.

The Makitas are good though like you said good for site work I just preferred using the Kapex because it cuts wood like its butter and so I decided to use it on site also.

Well your best trying before buying arnt you. I would properly make stuff then when it doesn't work get angry and throw it lol.

If your on FOG why dont you ask the question on their.?!? Seen your name on joiner1970. Do you think this is a better site?!?! This site to me seems a bit slow and I have noticed a lot of questions are not answered even from a while ago. Im only a newbie on here so im giving it a chance but at the moment I think FOG is far better.

Oh I forgot to mention I got a reply on FOG and Woodguy said he has a stand with same type of attachment which he bought from Axminister so if it doesn't work for ya mate try axminister.

Both forums are great Im sure I found out about the FOG through this forum.

Obviously the FOG is a better place for Festool specific questions.

Very true but I find its very good for a lot of other things because most of them are good joiners carpenters because they are into festool im assuming so they also know alot about their trade and can be of great help for many other things. You dont want to ask heavy Dewalt users any questions because they obviously dont know anything because they use Dewalt Hee Hee
