Hi

I'm after some melamine to face a router table top, can anyone suggest what type I need and where I might get it please?

Thanks in advance

Toby

You won't be able to get melamine to apply yourself. Either use melamine faced MDF or MFC or cover the top with laminate (Formica, etc) or better still use a board with laminate already applied as it will be flatter than you could get it with contact adhesive.

international decorative surfaces sell it it in a bewildering range of colours. stick to white . these have branches all over the place. ps i wouldnt use contact adhesive use cascamite or titebond 111 and a flat caul with plenty of cramps.

Just wondering why you wouldn't use contact adhesive?

Try Dunstable Laminates, they sell all sorts of laminates. What they call "backing laminate" is perfectly suitable, and they sell offcuts as well as full sheets (8'x4'). Last bit I bought from them was about 4'x3' and cost me about £5.

or you could just buy a table top from axminster for around £35. May save a bit of hassle.

following a tip on the forum i went to b&q and bought 'fireback'. Its the decorative stuff that goes around an inset fireplace (between it and the mantlepiece) so in the store is by the fireplaces. Its £30, about 5mm thick and dead flat and sturdy (also can be routed very easily), if you want a look have a look at my thread on the projects part of the forum

Thing is you can get a 10 x 4 foot sheet of laminate for that price!!

Still understand it's easier to walk into B&Q ...

Toby I got some from Jewsons - they delivered it too rolled up. It's handy to have for lots of things.

Cheers

contact adhesive when i used it seems difficult to apply in a even layer and once its set any lumps/bumps show on the top. cascamite and titebond are slower setting and a flat caul means a fairly flat surface.

Well

a very kind forum member pm'd me and has some spare which will come in the post. Very generous, and I promise some pictures.
