Perhaps you should think about what you post, instead of assuming that everybody shares your sense of humour.

You're right about the humour though, well almost, I did assume everyone had a sense of it, clearly I'm wrong. Mea Culpa.

Why would you want a dissection of the tutor's work before you appreciated the apprentices'?

Because I have no idea about blacksmithing or how hard it is. Without having the standard of a professional to compare to I have no idea how good the apprentices work is. I can only compare the relative pieces by the three apprentices to each other. They could have been almost there or could have been a mile off - I was curious to know which.

Marking by the professional blacksmith means nothing - he gave scores of around 55-60 iirc. Whats the usual score? Is that good? Would a pro get scores of 95-100, or 60-65? Not partciulalry bothered by the competitive element between the apprentices, but knowing how far they had come and how far they had to go would have been interesting, at least to me.

Steve.
Fair enough in terms of understanding what is involved - perhaps a 2 minute clip of established blacksmiths' work in a competition?
They did say that 60+ was a good score and more than would be expected for an apprentice. But that would be judging them against the standard of other competition entries, not the working smith.

I could be wrong, but i thought they said 60 marks was really good for the amount of time they had been doing it as that mark is usually achieved by an apprentice doing a years work.
great program anyway..

I went for a job at a blacksmiths once.

The chap asked me if I had ever shooed horses

"No". Said I "but I've chased a few cats away".

Andy, who still hasn't found time to watch the woodworking masterclass yet
