Unless the borrower has a new splinter guard in stock to give back with the borrowed rail, that is not a good idea.

Sharing a track comes with the similar drawbacks to sharing a needle...

My rail is set up for my saw and the blade that is currently on my saw. Running your saw with your blade down my track is likely to upset that finely tuned combination.
That's a very valid point.

How sharp is the blade? If the start of the cut is fine but it veers off by the end it could be the blade drifting due to uneven wear. Also check that there is no play in the spindle.

My makita is years old and natural movement/wear in the bearings means the splinter guard us basically that. It guards against long splinters in veneered board. Its not a guide. I've changed mine 3 times in 15-20 years. Then I got bored. Now I just know where it cuts. Usually using some guide(dogs or a combination square) failing that I use the blade at both ends. But snug up a bit on the rail.
