I have a Makita Router with no obvious Model No.The plate reads 1800w 20000r/min. 12mm.PC -GF15. It appears similar to the 3612.
Can anyone hear any bells?

Mike, Are you absolutely certain that it's a Makita, i've see one before that looks identical to the 3612 but is a totally different make, I think it had a name called rig-master or something!

Just out of curiosity, why do you need the model number? It certainly appears to be a 3612 but possibly an older version.
If it's spares you need try Power Tool Spares here, I used them recently for parts for my SCMS and found them very helpful.

Without appearing rude, are you absolutely sure its a genuine Makita? I was offered a cordless drill about two years ago, colour was similar to yours (admittedly photos can be deceptive). It was only when I did not recognise the model that alarm bells started to ring. I had a short opportunity to take the drill apart and was obviously a poor copy. All the genuine stuff has type approval and spec plates (labels) and they really start to look very different when you compare them side by side with a "genuine" one. Might be wrong, but worth checking it's not a copy!

I'm afraid it's what I suspected, it's a copy of a makita and even the stickers are of poor standard. I once replied to an advert for a (so-called) Makita sliding mitre saw and it also turned out to be a counterfeit, a very good one though and would have fooled anyone who diddn't know what a genuine one was really like. Makita had even started including small print about counterfeits on a lot of their literature as the problem is becomming more common.

sorry to dissapoint,

jonathan.

To my untrained eye it looks like the ones Warehouse Direct are selling. Certainly not a Makita.

I appreciate all the replies and I believe the router to be a Makita counter feit.It was bought off Ebay for not a lot. I will keep it as an educational tool(Well it taught me a lesson.)
Cheers.

Mike it is really sickening when this happens and I feel for you. I'm afraid it's the old adage if it seems too good...

About a year ago on Ebay there was a whole host of these Makita ripoffs, some were labelled makita, I cant remember the other name they used but were absolutly identical just different stickers. I only noticed because I was very nearly caught myself, when looking for a router for my emplyee to use.
