it was glued up last night and I've chiselled off the excess around the back to clean it up, now there's no turning back.

here's some pics to show you the latest progress, just to give you an idea of how it's going to look, it'll be even nicer with de-waxed shellac and wax on it, almost done now, and don't worry the dials will be out when finishing it :D

I'm going to start on making some coving next, to attach to the bottom, then I can finally begin finishing.

I've glued on a piece of CLS spruce 2 x 4 cut down to a size I was happy with, and at this stage looks a bit bulky until I add the mitred moulding.

tomorrow I'll cut the cove moulding to fit and glue it down then I can move onto final sanding and finishing. I could finally put some aldi clamps into use I bought a while ago!

just glued up the mitres, I made them longer on the backside so I can saw them off later, I don't like the look of nails on this kind of thing, it ruins it for me. This is my first attempt at a mitre joint on an actual project, once sanded they should look crisper, I'm going to wait until tomorrow before starting the finishing process. The coving was premade in this case, I don't have moulding planes to make my own yet.

This is an upside down view, it's going on the bottom to add decoration and weight.

Tbh I prefered it without those extra bits. Still looks good, just a tad fussy on the top.

it's surprisingly close to completion now, just one more layer of shellac, have applied a sanding sealer layer then 2 further coats, I sometimes can't believe the difference shellac can make, on tuesday I will be able to buff it out with wax. The grain is really popping now

The final layer of shellac was brushed on today, I settled on 5 layers (including a sanding sealer layer) so four full layers of shellac.

Hopefully the pictures show you how nice that figured piece is on one of the sides, and how much warmth and depth shellac can add as a finish.

next stage is buffing it lightly with 0000 steel wool and applying some clear wax, it's almost done.

it's done now, just buffed it with 0000 steel wool, then added a couple of layers of clear furniture wax, now it's deciding where to put it, just need to hang it on a wall now. Hope you enjoyed the project, any questions just ask me, thanks, Ben.

Great work, that turned out lovely! I've never used shellac, don't really know anything about it! Must do some research and give it a go, it looks great!
