In my opinion, the best way to do this is with a router. I know you said you'd like to save money, but you'll get a lot of use out of a router. If you didn't want to do that, then a jigsaw is certainly a useful DIY tool.

If you want it to look good then you are going to have to buy the right tools.

Otherwise, I'll sell them to you for £15 per disk plus postage.
