One is mahogany with sycamore legs and dividers and small, sliding, tray. I joined the sides to the legs using mortise and tenon on the Rat just because I can  but dowel joints or biscuots would ahve bene as good (if not as much fun). Made tray and dividers removable and the tray slides across.
I am really pleased with the dimensions of this one and love the figure in the wood - spent a while getting the pieces just right

Other is a beech box (recycled from old school tables) with some spalted Oak in the top (free from Bobscarle a while back - thanks Bob) and walnut splines. I like this one, but not as much as the other. Dividers are removable again.

Nice and easy to make but such a lot of fun :)

Ta guys

This week, i'm making 8 more of the beech style but in differing woods and 4 more of the mahogany style, again in differing woods and if you can stand it, I'll post more piccies when they are competed

They look great Tony =D>

Like the beech one in particular as the oak top is quite stunning. Might be interesting to try fewer and thinner splines with it next time so that the top dominates even more as the striking figuring certainly warrants it ?

Definately looking forwards to seeing some more !

Cheers, Paul. :D

The are beautiful Tony, I love both of them.

In all my "woodworking life" I worked only with 3 kinds of wood; Lauan (in Japan) pine and Oak and never it combination....I have to start looking for all those "colored" woods...

Oh, I'm far from being expert in photography, but I noticed that when I take the pictures under Fluorescent lights they come-up brighter and better.

Regards

Yep, I thought the same about the splines and am thinking of using a tenon saw with thin veneer slines for the next one to alow the eye to focus more on the lovely top.

Surprisingly, the boxes themselves are of even more striking colour than the photos suggest as the lighting source was a (poor) camera mounted flash.

Two nice boxes and the timber choices are also very appealing.

Perhaps at a later date we could do a swap with some timbers.
Thinking of 30"x4"x 1".
What do you think?

Very nice Tony :D
Like em both.
Tony try putting your work on a whiteish background, like an old sheet.
This will then throw some of the flash back onto the object.

Sounds like a good idea to me John!

I am staying over near you I believe (Weymouth) on the Friday of the Yandles show....

Nice idea Paul.J. I'm hopeless with cameras and always just want to get the photo taking out of the way as quickly as possible

Nice boxes Tony, the beech is my favorite. I especially like the way you have varied the spline depths, never seen that done before.

John
