Those very nice people at LV regularly send me one of their lovely catalogues, stuffed full of all manner of enticing goodies. I particularly like the look of the new small LA BU smoothing plane (about the size of a No3) and one of their cyclonic 'trash can' lids, but there's loads more inside. The trouble is, very little of it seems to be imported into the UK and I've never seen much of what they have to offer up for grabs on this side of the pond. Some of the Veritas stuff is imported but not all it would seem, which seems a shame to me. I suppose it could be ordered directly from the UK, but then I couldn't be bothered to faff around with HRMC etc etc. Any one from Axminster out there? - Rob

This may (or may not) be helpful.

I visited the LV Store in Toronto a few times whilst my younger daughter was living over there.
An Aladdin's Cave of stuff with lots of special offers on the smaller stuff that you do not see over here and stuff you would not normally bother to import?
They are based a bit like an Argos with the expensive stuff displayed in glass cabinets. You fill out an order form, pick up a number ticket and when your turn comes up hand in your order to one of their very friendly sales staff.
I only wish they would set up a few stores over here?

I've imported well over ten items from the US and Canada and, thankfully, only once had to pay duty. Even with the current exchange rate, it's well worth doing.

Thanks,
Neil

I think that's the issue Rod, it's the smaller, useful 'nik-naky' sort of stuff that's interesting which you just don't see over here. I'm another one for a store over here...Rob Lee listening? - Rob

Their customer service is fantastic too. I bought a small optical punch, among other things and put my home address on the order form.
A few months later, out of the blue, I recieved a small package from Canada with a replacement steel punch - it seems some had been supplied with a badly tempered one.
Mine was OK I think as I had only been using it on brass?
