Looking for a good(!) yew timber yard Nottinghamshire

Hello,

Thanks for looking at my post first of all. I've not often got many jobs that require me to buy wood from timber yards and as such I've little idea about timber yards that are more than just builders merchants.

I'm looking to find character grade knotty yew, orange red in colour and somewhere around Nottinghamshire. I was just wondering if anyone could recommend somewhere please.

This is an arborist web site. If you post your question on there you may find someone that has some milled timber that meets your needs.

How much Yew are you looking for & what is it for?

Thank you for the suggestion about signing up to that site, I will give it a go.

As for what I need and what it is for, none of your busi... kidding It's for a wall unit a customer wants me to make out of knotty character grade yew, as orange/red as possible, need about 12m at 5cm (though read 1 1/2" to 2" now) thick, even plane, at 40cm wide going down to 30cm wide depending on the piece, some with characters/knots in the thick sides for face detail (if I'm describing this in the wrong terminology please excuse me). If you followed that then... another 16m at 5cm wide again as above, going from 30cm in width to 15cm in width as evenly as possible (this I doubt will make sense to any of you, just what is in my head).

Seeing as this is such a seemingly rare material I very much doubt I will get what I want so we are now looking at backup ideas with other red/orange woods like bobinga, wych elm and... well, that's it at the minute... any suggestions on that too?

Not quite Nottinghamshire but you could try Mike at http://www.mactimbers.co.uk/. You won't find a more helpful chap than Mike, and he usually has some interesting stocks of yew.

I know I am a bit further away from you but i have a large stock of character grade/knotty yew boards in my wood store that would probably suit your needs!
