I wanted to make another tall classical Elm vase but decided to push the style to the extreme and make it with a very long elegant neck. This is the result, its 19" tall(which makes it my tallest vase to date) The textured band is around half the width of the previous vase of this style and this time I toned the gold effect down by mixing the gold acrylic with some black to try to make the band more subtle. It is finished in danish oil to bring out the darker grain more.
Comments and critiques are very welcome.

Johnny

Not sure if the camera has distorted this image ?

It looks top heavy in my eye

I know you said you wanted a long neck vase but the proportions look strange

Nice grain detail and finish

Yes it could be the wide angle view but it does look top heavy to me too. the thick rim edge compounds it as well to my eyes.

Well executed on the turning/finishing front though, the narrower band suits the base form well.

Thanks for the replies everyone :)

Blister, there is a fair bit of distortion from the wide angle lens, the top is straight and everything
Chas, it doesn't look too top heavy viewed in real life  The opening is kept wide to stop it taking on a bottle appearence.
Steve, its not a signiture but I do seem to be a bit fond of a textured band at the moment
Malc, that has to be the laziest reply ever

Gorgeous bit of wood, and I like the idea, but agree with the others that the top looks heavy. Was this turned green, Johnny ?

Hi Johnny,

I wasn't being lazy, honest guv!

I thought Paul had commented so succinctly, yet so precisely, that I didn't think his reply could be bettered. As I had nothing else to add, I quoted him (if I knew how to add his name to the start of the quote, I would have added that as well).

Still think it is a smashing vase!

Malc :D

P.S hope you don't mind me quoting you, Paul
