I found this little Spear and Jackson in one of my boxes. It is a little sad with the two rust spots shown, the last half inch of the 8" blade having now lost its teeth due to the large spot on the end. Is this little fellow worth salvaging I think I paid 25p for it years ago? With my strongest magnifying glass I can just make out the teeth are all there and level, but dirty. I have never sharpened a saw before and have no files for the job so it would be nice to send it away.

Am I correct in thinking it's a dovetail saw?

Yes, it is a dovetail saw. A similar Tyzack, wich was my third saw ever and the first I've sharpened had 20 tpi. It is not that difficult to do as long as the teeth are regular.

Derust the saw with a green pad. Clamp between two slim batten in a vise.

Buy a needle file. Mark 5 cm on the neddlefile with tape.
Start at the toe. One 5 cm file stroke per gullet.

Thanks for the advice, I am ashamed to say that the rusting has happenend on my watch so I should do due penance and restore the wee thing.
