Connecting up the PVR to the plasma screen has highlighted the problems with lip sync or rather the lack of lip sync. Then I started taking a hard look at the basic plasma screen and external AV amp combination and realised that there is a fundamental problem with the audio coming ahead of the image even on that combination.

So I reckon I need an audio delay of some sort between the plasma and the AV amp. I've discovered Felston but that's digital only ..and I don't have that connection between plasma and the AV amp...so any suggestions for an analogue audio delay unit?

Roger,

I had a similar problem with my Denon DVD player, Denon AV amp and Hitachi projector.

What AVamp are you using? The Denon amp (1906) has a digital audio delay that can be adjusted to bring them back in step and I believe most Dolby Digital compatible amps have a similar facilty.

Maybe yours AV amp can do the same.

If you need an external piece of kit, my system needed a delay of about 40mS so that should give some idea what area to be looking in.

Cheers
Mike

Hi Mike

It's a Sony system and sadly no audio delay that I can locate. It has a digital input but the TV (Sony plasma) doesn't have a digital output. So that precludes any digital delay units such as the Felstom (??) unless I get an A/D converter and do it that way...which adds to the expense

Not sure why it is as noticeable as it is as I don't think the plasma has progressive scan which my quick research suggests is the reason behind much lip sync problems.
