hey i have been ask to help.... fix or make better.
no screws at all, comes out of a van like flat pack and then put together for say 6 hours then flat down back in van.
3 shelf unit that stands on a table to display some toys (lightweight stuff)

right now it is about
bottom shelf is deeper (41cm)middle is about the same and top (20cm)
it is about 114 wide with sides look picture for details.

(right now there few different sizes of wood thickness and types used)

A
----
----
AA
--------
--------
AAAA
------------
------------

shelves also have a slot a few Cm from the end that match the sides
so half gap of the side half the gap on the self and slides in

there are 2 sides like this
and 2 shelfs that slot in there the AA and AAAA is
and a shelf i think that rests on where the A is.

(could copy with 9mm ply and make same)

what i would like to do
lightweight as can be
goes flat down and puts up again
(cloth can go over so looks don t matter)

might ask if 2 of a smaller size would be better
less bow in the middle and there no support there

Lark,

A first pass would be to make the bottom shelf the bottom support so that it touches the table top and is the thing it rests on.

I would slope the back backwards by about 25 degrees maybe a bit less and use the base shelf and back as the anchor.

The back would have a piece dropping from the top to the bottom ( table ) to act as a support. If this could be a solid triangle of ply to give the back support and link the support vertical piece with the sloping shelves and base then it would be OK.

If the shelves bow at all then maybe they would need to be made in torsion box style for light weight but strong approach.

regards
alan

the bow i dont think matters to much.
they are only putting like toy puzzles things like that.

what would be the suggest wood thickness at a guess would say closer to 9mm. 4/3 will be to thin yer?

first off i had thought about M&T on the sides. so they just slot in
(i have never done m&t yet lol) they can poke out the ends dont have to be flush

then maybe could even do something like triangle or rectangle with m&t that goes in the middle of the back to give that support if needed

just thinking about it.
