We've had a couple of Dysons. Older ones were better but since they've offshored production, as others say, they're pants.

We bought a Henry a couple of years ago and it is an excellent machine. We use ours with the bag in and it beats the pants off the Dyson.

well it finally arrived my new PORTABLE dust cleaner.
Surprise surprise, it is RATED at 2400W so I can use my big ELU Mof177e router :D

Got plenty of suck :) and is quite light, only downside is the size of the RE-USABLE dust bag, came with more the the normal accesories , hose, pipes , large flat mouth , small flat mouth , round brushed mouth , crevice tool, AND 3 tool adaptors

So for the € 55.00 a damn good purchase

having the trend vac i do think it works, but is a little bulky.
also have a hitachi upright which is interesting but the handle broke,
and have also a cylinder lg with a 1300 watt motor which works well.

questions to think about, do you have stairs, high ceilings, lots of carpets or rugs? if so think about a small cylinder for daily or weekly use, whilst for the BIG clean up you need at least 2000watts, and probably with an upright. don't forget the weight.

also looking in tesco's you can buy a vac for under 20 quid up to the dyson.
personally i would buy the cheap one, and see how it works, then maybe trade up later.

whatever you buy, it won't do all you want, will take up ridiculous amounts of space, have some good tools and many useless ones. the filters and bags are all rubbish, so buy the no names in tesco/asda etc, and throw away, sorry recycle yearly or when it drops dead, and buy another cheap one.

sadly on these more than any other household item, it is the only way to go. they don't make them like they used to and no one keeps spares.

worse than old woodworking tools

anyone got any rockwell spares

If you weren't after a bagless vac, then I'd recommend a Sebo. I'm on to my third purchase (but not because they're unrealiable - quite the opposite):

1. Now with ex-partner... She got custody!
2. The one I've had for about 8 years now (purchased to replace the one I lost in the custody battle).
3. The one that I purchased for my Mum about 7 years ago - even she can't knock it.

Got a Henry too - he's cute and great for clearing up most of the muck after doing a DIY job but comes nowhere near being as good as the Sebo on carpets.

If it were me, I'd forget bagless and go out and buy a Sebo. Talk to anyone at John Lewis - they'll tell you the same and they do know their products. Even in the height of the Dyson rage, they steered me away and on to the Sebo which, at the time, I'd never heard of. If you're still doubting... They make industrial grade vacs too.

I have to say I'm astonished at the number of people slagging off Dyson, We've owned 3 and they've all been fantastic! The current one is 7 years old and works brilliantly! (except the mini turbo brush thing I bought seperately - that's utterly useless).

just ambled through the snow to my local asda.

they have two VAC models, both uprights, one a "lightweight" at about 50 quid. seems to be a cyclone, but of real interest is the 7.5 metre cable.

they also have another at 80 quid, 1900 watts, also with the long cable.
since vac do other industrial types, might be worth looking at.
