Yum - expect you'll be pleased.

It was my first (and for a long time only) bench plane. I was chuffed with it straight out of the box.

Since then, I have done the normal fettly type stuff, and it's still my goto bench plane most of the time.

Cheers

Hmmm, OK:

Recipe for Ham Fettlins:

Tickled the sole with some wet'n'dry on glass to make sure toe, heel, mouth (front and back) coplanar; bevelled front edge of throat (from the top!) to improve chip ejection; checked frog for flattness (sole and blade bearing surface); checked frog bed for flatness (a little paint in the corners restricted forward movement of the frog to close up the mouth); honed and polished the cap iron business end (the bit that falls off on a Clico/Record StaySet) to ensure good contact with blade so even pressure/chips not trapped and smooth chip passage over the top.

All done gingerly because I didn't want to pipper it up - should revisit now I suppose, as certainly when I come across a blade I was happy with then, I have to redo it to be happy with it now.

(And if someone says I shouldn't have done this or that, give them the benefit of the doubt, not me - I would :p )

What "fettly type stuff" ????

Cheers

Don't worry, I haven't done any fettling on mine other than hone the blade -never even laid a straight edge on the sole  and the plane is absolutely fantastic despite my lazy ways :D

Just a quick update

That nice man from ANC has just dropped off the Clifton. And I am well chuffed. :D

The plane seems excellent. Build quality is superb (as you'd expect at £228). But, more importantly, the "feel" is superb - this is one heavy plane, but it doesn't feel it. In comparison with other planes of this size which I have tried, it feels much better balanced.

Anyway, i'm off to flatten and sharpen the blade, then it's a night of testing for me !!!!

Thanks all for your help.

Cheers

Karl

Yes, they feel great, don't they \:D/ Very pleased that you are pleased with it.

Cheers
