Hi all.

My apologies I am quite busy so have not been in too much to post.

Well here's another lidded form  . I am developing some new work so hopefully will post them soon. But I may not be able to resist putting a lid on them

This one is locally sourced spalted beech. 280mm x 280mm finished in renaissance wax. I had a few issues with it one being the wood was quite punky. But it had such beautiful markings that I decided to use it. Even though still not being happy yesterday I stripped off the wax and sanded back again by hand and now am happy again.

The things we do in the pursuit of perfection. Not that it is perfect but it is fun trying.

superb Mark- the bead and finial work well together- i'm not sure if i would have had the patience to hand sand and sort out the soft wood- but the results are excellent-
do you ever do group photos with your similar pieces?

Brilliant Mark. The finial really does it for me! Such attention to detail!

Thank a lot for your comment.

Paul.J

Thank you for your comment. Don't get me wrong I am happy with it.

I look at each piece I do for a few days on by putting it on my side board and look to see what I could tweak for the next one.

Thank you both again

Mark I love it.

I think that one can always see parts of ones own work that could be better but its always a matter of perspective.

I love your lidded forms, I think you have found a balance of shape and finish that to my eyes is spot on. :D :D :D

I would love to see a group photo.

Keep posting

Regards,

Mike C

 oh yeah- i'm a bit nice but dim today

i'm not having a great day and its only 10.30

I think these lidded forms will always be a signature piece for you- like melvyns sea flower vessels are instantly recognisable, these now are just as recognisable as a Mark Sanger lidded form. superb matey :D

Thank you for that.

I have tried hard to get a signature piece and your words make all the frustration and brain frying worth while.

Hope your day picks up.

I would be very flattered if someone wanted to make work like mine.

Thank you for the compliment.

No more please or my head will explode. But joking aside, thank you very much

Think it's all been said. Very, very nice Mark.

'er indoors thinks so as well, so a copy may be on the cards. She's already got the place where it would go marked out. Thanks for the inspiration, but must keep 'er away from my screen other wise I could end up with more work.

Its another absolute 'blinder' .... beautiful work, and as George so rightly says, an 'Instantly recognisable Mark Sanger' stunning piece of work.

For me, you're up there at the very top of the tree.

This, and every other one you've posted, are jaw-droppingly awesome, and that doesn't over-state the thing one little bit.

A W E S O M E !!!!!

Now I will do a 'wayne's world' I'm not worthy bow, and retreat slowly into the shadows to drool some more !

Beautiful, Mark. ... truly beautiful. :D

Tam

Thank you for your kind comments. I hope it turns out ok. Post a pic when you have done it.

Jenx

Thank you very much. I think you are being a bit too kind but thank you all the same.

Thank you again to both of you

And that piece is a copy of a Mark Sanger Piece which I turned today.

Thank you for your comment.

I wish I still had the first piece that I turn ten years ago. It was sxxt I mean not very good. It was a piece of scrap pine turned on a screw fix lathe, made with a scraper. Gouges, what are they.!

I turned for a year without knowing what a bevel was. I thought bruised and bleeding knuckles were macho and part of the process.

Then I actually read the Richard Raffan book that my wife got me a year before.

There are also many turners I look to and go Wow if only I could do that. I am very appreciative of all your comment but I am on the same road as the rest, learning and progressing.

We never stop learning and any one who says the know it all will never progress any further.

If I can give any singular piece of advice, it is to learn good tool technique. the reason I say this is that until I concentrated on my technique I struggled to put into the wood what I had in my mind.

But as I say I am learning all the time.

Thanks again.
