Just as modern domestic microwaves, used normally, are safe, there is no reason why a device for Lichtenberg wood burning cannot also be made to operate safely.

As far as I can tell, the appeal seems to be in the interesting and random nature of the branching pattern. Looking at it another way - could not these unique designs be generated with a computer program of sorts and burnt using pyrography?
 
That's what I was thinking. If you print it and dab it with water the pattern transfers onto the wood. Then pyrography. If you search online for random line generators few pop up. Some are lines as in lines of text, some are lines as in ...lines

It might be that a satellite photo of a snow-capped mountainous area would provide a template.

I've just watched a you tube link on fractal branching. I believe it was using something called Blender - quite mind boggling.
Having been up in the tree canopy all day pruning an overgrown beech hedge, all I'm going see when I close my eyes tonight will be dark branches superimposed against a light sky. :LOL:
