As some of you know we have two dogs, (two cats as well) and the leads and harnesses have been getting out of control, well they are hanging on a key rack that is just not up to the task. So this caught my eye:

Here is the only wip shot I remembered to take, should keep Mark happy. I am using some bits of pine pews that I bought last year. The Woodsmith unit was too big for the space on the wall so I adapted the idea down to fit.

Here it is complete, two coats of finishing oil applied and all of the hardware fitted.

The front is a flap, made to look like draws, it has a rule joint, this supports it in the open position. There is a rare earth magnet used to hold the flap in the shut position.

I remember someone talking about using tobacco tins for storage and thought you might like to see the whole of that rack.

And for those of you who did not see them last year here is the second rack of tins.

Its due to be fitted to the kitchen wall later this week.

Hi Dave,

That looks really nice and solves a good practical problem.
I bet your workshop smells lovely with all that Pitch Pine.

David

Nice job Dave, like the "pretend" drawer fronts 8) - I've filed that idea away for nicking at some point.
I hope you didn't empty all those tobacco tins yourself
(sorry, I've become something of an anti-smoking bore since giving up last year)

Now go and tidy that bench or it's off to bed with no supper for you my lad!

Oh no.

I have some tins that my Granddad used, I can still remember him getting into trouble with the family doctor for smoking his roll ups. Then I worked with a chap who smoked nearly a tin a week and persuaded him to save me the tins. :D That's why there are several hundred tins in the workshop. 8)

Dave I like that. It had me looking in the hall at where we keep our dogs lead, I may have to put it on the list.

Well I have put it up on the wall, I found the tripod and thought I would take a few more pictures, but I set it up wonky so you will just have to tilt your head as you look at then.
This was the situation before the new unit went in:

Hung on the wall:

And the leads put back:

My Dad bought me a new gadget that I tried out while putting this up:

Look no hands!

You just fit this on the end of the vacuum hose and put it ove the mark on the wall and it holds itself up, dust, what dust. The best bit it was £1.49 from Lidl. :D
