I think it will be a hit - especially if they do a deal with supermarkets to install charging stations at supermarket car parks - "Charge while you shop", "Free charge if you buy a Jumbo pack of Kleenex" etc. Hire a Sainsbury Leaf on 6 month contract for £49.99 p/m.etc.

It better be Chris, they're talking about flogging 50000 of 'em a year!

Roy.

Looks like another car to hold up people getting to work to be honest...

The Italians have the idea:

Anyone know what the life of the present L I batteries is?

Roy.

Have they thought about installing a means of charging the battery as the car runs? I bet there's a machine or gadget somewhere that could do that, so you'd never need a charging point.

Oh I just realised.. there is an alternator... Isn't there?

If they do put some kind of alternator in them, and maybe give you a spare battery, the Government won't be able to charge for the charge, or place a charge on top of the charge for charging the battery!

I reckon you are correct Roy. I am getting cynical and like most cynics I am often proven to be right!

Even the redoubtable Anne Widdicombe has finally seen the light!

Cheers Roy...

It's all so taxing isn't it?

Scalextric!

Terry,

My tongue was in cheek of course... But Scalextric?
You might be nearer the mark than you think.

When we are all strapped into our 'bubbles' and transported along special tracks imprinted in the tarmac, at a regulaltory speed and distance apart!

So glad I won't be around to see that! :D :D

John - Toyota have had such a track in operation in Tokyo for some years now , :? :? Definitely not for me though.

Dave

Well that shows how much I know!
:D :D :D

Personally, 90mph is fast enough for me, and to get caught at that speed would still mean 6 points, a 'green' car or not!

So one of these 'silent chariots' would suit me.

I wonder how many accidents there will be, due to the fact you can't hear them coming too well.

they can build a car that runs on fresh air for me, the gov will still tax you to death. remember when gas first came out ? my carbon footprint is,
1,000,000,000 tons a year, and i dont give a toss.

Forget the electric car bit, I shut the page as soon as I got to the phrase "urban off-roader".

Seriously. What the HELL is one of those?

I'll stick to the Aston 8)

Until we are all getting our electricity supplied by the fairies at the bottom of the garden, there is always going to be a similar carbon footprint.
First law of thermodynamics innit?

Er no it isn't. Not all energy sources are carbon based, hence there isn't always the same carbon footprint. There will always be a carbon footprint, it will never be zero, but it isn't constant.

The problem that I think you're alluding to is that the majority of electricity is made by burning stuff. This is the bit we have to change. Carbon footprints are a problem and need to be tackled, but the oil running out is the big issue here. We need to reduce our dependency on oil or life as we know it will break down at some point. Sooner rather than later.

Regarding the lack of noise, this is a misconception. The majority of noise produced by traditional cars is related to tyres on road. Stand by a busy road and listen to the cars go past, you can't hear the engine as a car approaches and passes.
