We have had a Wharfedale LCD TV for quite some time now and are very happy with it. The only thing against it is the viewing angle isn't as wide as other types, but that's no big deal - who sits at an angle of 70 degrees or more off the perpendicular to the screen anyway?

The thing to look for when buying any LCD TV is the contrast ratio. That's what makes the blacks appear black. Anything less than 1000 isn't going to hack it.

Personally, I'm against plasma simply because they gobble a lot of electricity, although they are effective room heaters.

1000 what?

Personally I don't think you can beat a properly converged CRT projector for image quality, shame they can't beat the wee toasters for ease of portability or use.

It may sound daft, but use decent mains and signal cables on all your boxes, especially your Sky box (if you have one) and including your TV.
....
For me this combination made the picture much better - clearer, less blocky and better colours.
This may be because of outside factors such as the weather, mains quality last night or just self-delusion having spent the money, but I think it worked :)
Interesting comments Pete on "clearer, less blocky" and I know what you mean about possible self delusion - Emperors new clothes and all that!. Have been down this road with Hi-Fi and Home Cinema speaker cables etc. Have also seen the for and against arguments about mains cables in particular - do not know what to believe.

I wasn't aware it was debated.Mains cables can have a huge (adverse) effect on picture quality. Especially three phase, it has given me many hours of "pleasure" sorting out the mess made by careless or selfish mains installations.
I have read some debate on mains cables on AVforum which (from memory) seemed to conclude that mains cablling does not have a huge effect on picture quality. I have a Pioneer plasma screen and must say that I am generally delighted with the picture quality and cannot see how it could be improved - perhaps ISF calibration? Perhaps I have been lucky with a reasonably stable mains supply!

Cheers :D
