I've found sadolin to be pretty durable. This is a 7 year old gate made from treated (planed up) timber. It's lasted well the film breaking down on the very hard knots in the whitewood.

It's got algae on the paint film though.

I finally assembled all the components and did the job. I made and galvanised two steel tanks to sit inside the wood surrounds. Altogether satisfying but expensive.

Top drawer!

For cheaper options Wickes do a £3 skip bag 50cm3 which is ideal for a 600mm planter.

I never found a plastic tank suitable really. The timber for each planter was maybe £130. Although the first one was made with scraps and cost £16! The tanks were £160 plus £60 galv.

Are the skip bags waterproof? Cos they sound just the ticket. The ones there replacing were 20 years old and one was shot but the other was still standing albeit dodgy. I used wagon curtain as a water proof liners. I'm hoping having an air gap will help it last but there only redwood.

I doubt it same material as 1 tonne bags. Good strong especially as they are smaller.
We made oak planters so the bags are well supported.
