My daughter was 11 earlier this month and wanted a laptop for her birthday. Well we resisted as long as we could before giving in (probably lasted at least a couple of minutes) and bought her one. I know the name implies you use one on your lap but a new desk for her bedroom seemed to be in order.

Made out of american white oak and finished with the new Chestnut Hard Wax. Sorry, but I did not do any pictures of the work.

Gratuitous picture of some dovetails, but don't look too closely.

And, do you think she is pleased with it?

Now, how long is it going to be before stickers appear on it?

BTW. First time I have used the Hard Wax. Went on nicely and buffs up well. Looks really good, similar to Danish Oil but it should be harder wearing.

Nice job...and the recipient is obvioulsy pleased  You need to 're-edjumacate' her though Bob  about 'pink' - Rob

Nicely done. How many coats of the hard wax oil did you apply, just out of interest? I've found that, unlike Danish oil (which can need three or four on oak), you can get a very good finish after only two and that any further coats don't seem to soak in as much. Great finish, though. :)

Thanks for all the kind comments. As you can see the "client" was quite pleased.

I gave the table two coats. I like the finish. Seems quite hard and buffs up very well. Goes on easily as well.
