Are there a cheaper version of these Kreg Zinc Pocket-Hole Screws what do you use
Mock

£15 for 500 seems a little expensive. I think I paid closer to £10 for 500 Kreg ones?

I tend to bite the bullet, when I am flush, and order the Kreg screws in the biggest boxes I can get. It's just a storage problem then.

I think there's a tendency to over-use Kreg screws. For instance, I can't see the point in using them to joint a table top into a wide board.

Kreg make a big thing about the screws acting as quick cramps, so you can get on with the rest of the job. But for making a table top, all of the work goes into jointing the boards. Once you've done that, I can't see what's to be gained, by not gluing the boards using sash cramps and cauls to keep it flat. Then set aside to get on with the job.
That has to be faster than setting up the Kreg, fiddling with the the Kreg Jointing cramp, drilling multiple holes, and whacking in twenty-plus screws. Then, as before, putting the top aside, whilst I get on with the rest of the job. Plus, saving a load of screws which, once the glue has dried, are superfluous; I also think loads of pocket-holes on the underside of a table-top, look naff! Out of sight but not out of mind!

That's my two penn'orth anyway! (hammer)
Now I'm off to fix the washing line for once and for all!

Cheers (hammer)

When short of certain sizes mid project, I've had good results from a countersunk screw and a flat washer. The latter is essential to prevent splitting the timber.

I have entertained this idea; so far I never had to use it, but thanks for the reassurance it works Myford.

Cheers.
