I made a start on the kitchen wall unit today. I got most of the carcase done and a dry fit by this evening.

I have managed to get the interior painted and glued together.

I now have to sand the exterior and then I can paint the cabinet completely. ;)

Thanks Chems. I have finally finished the cabinet, well actually I need to fit the catches but that is all that is left now. I am still not sure if I should use magnetic catches or the 'Bales' type catches?

The shelves are removable Just in case the customer needs more height inside it.

I hate bales ones, think they looks so MFI. For the last few doors I've done I've just inset a 10mm rare earth magnet in the door and another one in the back of a little block off wood and glued that into a corner.

I really like that unit, love the white and real wood look. Did you route that profile into the panels?

Cabinet looks good

you had a bit of overspray on the tools laying underneath it

How many coats of paint did it take?

Thanks guys. Yes I like the look of this one too and am pretty proud of it. :D Yes Chems all of the mouldings were routed by myself. I hadn't got a cutter to rout the beads in the centre of the panels so I cut them into strips and used the beading cutter I had then glued them back together. I know it was the long way around but it worked out well. Mcluma, I gave it two coats of primer and two top coats double coating the edges with primer.

While I was on the job for the wardrobes today I managed to get some pics of the cabinet fitted in place as I forgot to take them at the time.

Looks really good, was hard to get the idea when it was in the shop but it all makes sense now!

That's a cracking job Mailee. Love the contrast between the paint and natural wood. Did you hand paint or spray the finish - and what type of paint did you use please? A bit of detail on this would be really helpful in my research for my own kitchen build.

Thanks Roger. The paint was Morrells AC lacquer. It was a Farrow and ball colour named Pointing in a 20% sheen and it was spray painted. Pointing is quite a common colour for kitchen units apparently. HTH.

Thanks. just the type of answer I was looking for. It's all beginning to come together! (hammer)
