Hey all

FINALLY got some time to finish this.

Made from some offcuts of oak from a joinery firm. Used some walnut wedges in the through tenons although they don't really show much. But at least I got them round the right way this time!!

Only had access to hand tools for this so boards prepared with some planes, housings cut with a handsaw and cleaned up with record 71. Some carelessness caused the bottoms of the housings to be a bit wider so slight gaps but they look good enough. Tenons cut with the nearest size chisel I had.

finishing oil and wax.

On the insides of the sides I forgot to buff the wax soon enough and it set so looks a bit naff, but its all hidden when stuffs on the shelves.

You only do that once!!!      (as long as you learn from it then it's not a total disaster!!!)

Looks like a nice little job. Well done!! Personally I'd like more of a curve to the top and bottom of the side panels but that is purely a matter of personal taste!!

Cheers,

Richard

That looks a good piece, crisply made...funny looking bottle of Bells in there though  - Rob

Cheers all! I'm pretty pleased with it.

Not getting notification of updates to my posts for some reason so only just saw these.

I agree that the sides could have been curved better. Actually I lied about no powertools as I forgot I cut the curves with my bandsaw.

Actually I cut them first with my coping saw but it looked pretty bad and I got my bandsaw a few days later so used that.

Sanded with a bit of sand paper wrapped round a wooden dowel.

Ha yes that mug does look pretty funny!! :D
