Hi all,

Been lurking around lately but not actually doing much - work, Parish Council and family keep getting in the way ...

Like others I'm refitting our kitchen.
Unlike I'm almost certainly going to almost everything from Ikea
Yeah, I know it's cheating but it's cheap and reasonable and should last until we can afford an extension.

Anyway I'm looking for ideas for covering the wall between the worktop and the wall cupboards - splash backs I think. I don't like tiles as they can be awkward to clean, but the solid sheet panels I've found at the local builders merchant (ridgeons) are £300 for a 3mx1.2m sheet - and I need 2 of them.
That a very large proportion of the kitchen cost, so other ideas gratefuly received.

I was thinking of using the metal splashbacks you can get from... Ikea!

Pete, how about t&g matchboarding with 3 or 4 coats of varnish (matt, satin, or gloss), easy to clean.

Most of the laminate worktop makers offer splashback sheets of laminate on a 6mm backing with balancer. They come in colours to match worktops or metal effect. Cost about £160.
