...specifically those fitted to the back of units where the utilities (water/waste) are going to come through. What do you guys do with these?

Remove them completely...but then you see the wall etc?

Or cut holes in the panel to coincide where (approx) the utilities are going to come through, part fit the utilitiy pipes so that they are sticking out into the carcass and then slide the back panel over the pipes finally springing it into the slots in the carcass?

Any suggestions very welcome.

I usually go for the second option when fitting kitchens, making sure to over-size the holes so there is a little extra "play".
If the fitting is a nightmare I will leave the back fully off. By the time the shelf is replaced there's not a lot of wall showing.
Hope this helps

Roger,
Is the back structural or not? If is is just a hardboard panel, cut what you want, where you want. But if it is structural (ie chipboard keeping the carcase square), then I would cut it off square, just a couple of inches above where the shelf will sit. The pipework can be run over this panel, will be quite get-atable and the height will mean that things should not fall off the shelf and down the back.

Any help?
Cheers
Steve

The back isn't structural but the crossmember at the top that it was fixed to is but I can retro fit that.

No shelf possible since there's a huge waste disposal unit dangling down. Having now removed the back panel the wall doesn't look that bad and so I think I'll go for Plan A - leave it off!

Have to confess that after a nearly four week layoff I'm struggling to (a) get back up to speed (b) remember where I'd got to (c) remember where all the bits and bobs are and the last place I put the screwdriver/pencil/saw/tape measure (delete where appropriate)
