Kitchen Built in Appliances and Cupboard Depth

I am planning a kitchen and had the depths of the cupboards at 60cm. The normal depth of ovens / dishwashers seems to be 55cm. That gives me 5cm behind.

However the counter tops all seem to be 60cm, and the few places I have been only do 60cm. (apart from Ikea).

With 60cm top, you would have 55+2 for the doors = 57, 2cm space at back = 59, and then just 1cm overhang. (assuming no back panel).

It seems rather tight, is this normal?

My second query is regarding the back - I was planning to have no panel in the back, and the plug would be under the sink so the plug sticking out is not a factor.

However many of the installation diagrams have this cutout hole at the back.

Now I understand you'd need this with a back panel, however is this expecting some cut-out in the wall? I.e. the depth is increased, or is this for back panels only?

Dave the area marked is where to put a electrical box on the wall there will be a recess to match in the back of the oven so in that position there is a bit more clearance depth wise.

99% of our worktops are custom made, but I seem to remember getting 65cm deep worktop, we like to leave a service space behind our cabinets of around 5cm. Ikea do not allow for any space whatsoever behind their cabinets, so I wouldn't use them as a reference.

I would hard wire your oven in behind the oven itself, with an isolation switch accessible, without having to take the oven out. I believe in the UK you have to have a dedicated oven feed, run in larger capacity wire to cope with the high demand from an oven, but I have taken old kitchens out in the past which have had the oven just plugged in to a normal socket but this is not advisable. Hard wiring in will mean a shallow face plate with no socket poking out 2cm as well

Thanks, good to know firstly that the cut-out is in the oven. I quote the Ikea ones because they are the only ones I have found that are more than 60cm. All the trade suppliers and box stores sell 60 only (or 90). I asked a joiner/kitchen fitter and he said he'd never heard of any size other than 60. (here in Italy)

I will ask the electrician to do whatever is "normal", although it does mean I have to mark out the position fairly accurately, whereas I was hoping to have some more flexibility.
