king Size Mattress price

A very recent post "First Bed Design and build advice by tibi" made me wonder if any one has got good advice on price & quality of King size mattress.
My wife is starting to 'wonder out loud' do we need a new mattress; very soon I will be told 'we need a new mattress'.
All advice on good quality king sized mattress with good (low) price would be welcomed.

I have done manual labour all my adult life and had multiple operations on my back and shoulders. Just about everything in our house is either second hand or made by me. About 15 years ago my wife convinced me to buy a new expensive mattress to help with my sleeping. I considered it absolute sacrilege at the time but it was money well spent. I still can’t sleep for more than 3 1/2 hours a stretch without waking up with backpain. But with these expensive mattresses I can walk around the house for 10 minutes, lie down again, and at least have a chance of going back to sleep before the pain comes back. This makes a huge difference to my quality of life. We replace them every 3-5 years and the last superking we bought - just before covid - cost us about £1400. But you can get good quality sprung/hybrid mattresses from £400 and up and some memory foam ones even cheaper. You can probably even deduct a bit off these prices as your bed is one size down from ours. The brand I like the most is quite common I think and called Simba.

Get one with loads of tiny springs, they cost a lot but are well worth it.
Managed to get ours at a very good discount as it was ex display, I think it was half price at £1500 about 5 years ago.
Worth every penny. My back is much happier. They weigh a ton though so be prepared to struggle getting it upstairs

Personally I hate memory foam type mattresses as they are super hot and no where near as comfy.

We have an OTTY memory foam mattress which is really comfortable and has ended my morning back and hip pain, it was about £500 for a king size, the only downside is it is very hot. One of my customers specialises in four poster beds, the hand made mattresses she puts on them cost around £8000, I once had a lie down on one and it was like floating on a cloud.

We purchased a super king size around 3 years ago, I am of ample build and my wife is a good deal lighter, we didn't want any chance of "roll together" so the suggestion was lots of pocket springs, we looked at memory foam but was steered away from it by 2 different bed shops for a number of reasons the main one being heat they act as a really good insulator.
We bit the bullet and purchased Hypnos mattress and base, you can just purchase the mattress. Hyponos are the supplier of the beds for Premier Inn you can actually buy the very same mattress that they use in Premier Inns or you can go up or down the range, it wasn't cheap and we had to wait 10 weeks for it but we don not regret the wait and don't regret a penny of the cash we spent

I'm 105KG and find the astronaut space foam mattress we have is bloody useless. I can feel every single one of the mahogany slats on our bed, especially the 3rd one down that is a little thicker than the rest, but I can't be buttocked to get it out and plane it. Our next matress will defo be back to the spring type

It's very heavy and very firm which is why we have changed it....

Dont be talked into one you can't/don't need to turn over... as you're paying the same for only half the filling/wadding (only on one side).

Ours came from our holiday let, customers complained how hard it was so, swapped it for the summer season!

We have a memory foam queen size mattress and find it to be very 'grippy' - turning over and all that sort of stuff is difficult. Wife would like to go back to a basic innersprung job. I'm not too bothered as just as happy sleeping on the carpeted floor which I do quite often.

We also had a memory foam for a short while, and found it too hot.
I had the idea that you could buy two single mattereses and lay them on a king size bed,,but its just an idea and not sure if they would actually fit?
Could be usefull if one of you wanted soft and the other firm.

Ikea have different levels of firmness even for the same mattress so don't discount Ikea.

We have used IKEA mattresses for years and generally found them to be really good. However i recently changed to an Emma King size on recommendation of a friend, and it is even better. They are currently on a great offer too, around £475 for a King. You need to let it come up to size for a few ours first. I was really cynical about them, but am completely converted. I was afraid that they might be like a memory foam and be very hot, not a bit of it. Totally changed my perception. Another great benefit is that it is lighter to handle, changing te bed linen is so much easier. The covers are also removable top and bottom separately and simply go in the machine to wash and keep even fresher.
