My Sedgwick planer thicknesser draws 92 amps on startup! Had to have seriously heavy duty wiring to the new shed when it was done. Sparky was not pleased having to lug around such heavy cable but it was well worth it in the end.

Bob I hadn't seriously considered used machines, mainly because I'd find it difficult to trust that it hadn't had abuse or A a lot of wear that can't necessarily be seen. Having said that, I wouldn't rule it out. I just looked up yr machine, that's an expensive piece of kit if I was looking at the right one. What's wrong with talking about selling something on here then?

Nothing wrong with posting on here and that's what I intend to do but the rules say it has to have a price and I haven't got around to deciding that or taking photos.

cheers
Bob

I have the Jet machine too, the JPT260. For me it's been a fantastic purchase, not inexpensive but definitely worth every penny. Very quick changeover from P to T mode. The add-on mech digital readout is a real must if you do choose this one. Gives the ability for precise repeat cuts after the depth of cut has been changed. The build quality is 10/10.

Like Custard says,if you can afford it I bet the spiral cutter head would be a great investment.

Just for comparison with new though no spiral cutter, this is the kind of condition you can get buying used especially if via the forum or a trusted source.

Not much point in asking me though as I haven't decided 100% whether to sell or not or worked out a price even if I do. just took the pics today in case.

cheers
Bob

I looked at the Jet and the Axminster earlier this year. If I had bought either I would have bought the Jet. The Jet felt much better quality and to be blunt I could not have lived with the change over on the Axminster, it was a real pain in the behind getting the fence off first (which if I recall required tilting it first to get it past the guard) before the tables could be moved. And then it is one at a time gull wing style. Before you have the fence off the Axminster you will be thicknessing with the Jet.

In the end I bought the Startrite SD31 as they did a brilliant launch offer at a woodworking show meaning I got it for less than £1400 incl. delivery, diital read out and wheel kit. The SD31 is very similar to the bigger Jet, but at that price was the same cost as the smaller one. I am very happy with it, but see the current price is now nearly £1700 plus Delivey on top.

It was also the same time as when the new Axminster machines were being launched and at that time the guys in the Basingstoke shop told me that whilst the spiral cutter was better for the more wild and wacky grained timber the feedback they had from the technical team was that the fish was ot as good on less esoteric timber. I never really followed that up, so that view may have changed.

Hope that is helpful.

Terry.

I have the axi 106pt like Yorkshire Martin had problems with and total different experience for me. Had it over 2 years now and no problem, it's a bit of a faff taking fence on and off and wish it could take off more per pass but was cheap and has performed better then I expected. Joiner I know has a Felder but always comments on the good finish from my axi. I would prefer the Jet, seems more solid but could not afford at the time.
