Someone recently was asking about mortice machines. A Brimarc catalogue came in the post today and the machine on page 36 for the price of £342 looks unbelievable value. It takes two sizes of chisel 3/42 and 13/16" X and Y tables, on a cabinet stand, takes 19mm chisel in softwood and 16 in hardwood. Looking at it again I think they have got the price wrong. I have just checked its the same price on-line, amazing.

Newt you must be right as that price is too good to be true.

It is a bigger machine than the one on page 35 and that is £817, mind you the power is stated at 750w

Look at the pricing **** on page 51 magswitch universal mounting base £19.40 (appears to include two magjigs) one magswitch jig above £15.70 :?

Wondering whether I should buy a garage full of morticers and magswitches. :)

It is not the first time Ax have made a pricing slip, who remembers the bessey clamp affair?

Tony

Jake your right, well to me it looks incredible value for money, perhaps there is a problem with the design or performance :?

Difficult to tell without seeing it in the flesh - the cabinet base may be flattering it into looking more substantial than it is.

There's a review on there which suggests the parts are made from chocolate...

Yes, I was amazed they published that! To be fair, that's obviously the Ax White and the Jet one may only be outwardly similar, and even if a closer relative, they might have specified non-chocolate parts.

Ah made of chocolate  ( a real bummer in the current temperature), thats why the price is so low for what looks like a comprehensive machine. There is always a catch. Would be nice if there was an in depth review though.

I find it very strange that this model is sold in the UK under the jet brand since it is not part of their official non-us catalogue:

The morticer looks very much the same as the one manufactured in China by Laizhou Tongtai Machinery Co and rebranded all over the world by dozens of resellers. To name a few:
kity
scheppach
axminster
laguna
disber
grizzly
bricosergio
holzmann

I've used its cousin with the tilting head and can confirm that the castings are really crude and look like made of clay. But to be fair the machined surfaces are ok and the morticer performs well in action, except for the clamp which is a bit of a joke since it cannot be adjusted to increase the clamping strength.
