A rip saw will not be ideal for general purpose work as they are only meant to cut in the direction of the grain. I have a few jap saws that I keep on the bench, mostly for fine cross cutting. For general work on site which would be much like your general needs I find a western hardpoint (Bahco Laminator fav at the moment) and a modern Japanese saw like this do for most things that I want to cut by hand. worth having a better look at the Dick site as they have a far better range than Axminster.

Welcome to the forum BTW, the anti spam has stopped your link, after a few more posts you will be able to link OK.
