Hi all
i got this plane for a guy who comes to my college and sells tools he picks up from boot fairs and cleans up.
I can't seem to make it work. It works semi ok if I remove the slider to move the blade left and right. But when that slider is on the blade does not make contact with the little bit that slots into it to move if forward and back. If that makes sense. I have looked the plane up online and most of the pictures I see have slots going all the way through the blade though some have this blade on them. I can't see what, if anything, I am doing wrong. I think this is the 60 1/2. Well it's the smaller of the Stanley planes.
any help would be appreciated

Thanks everyone

That iron is for a block plane, although they're not all interchangeable.

This is very basic so apologies about having to check, are you trying to put it back with the bevel down (as it is oriented in the photo)? Block planes aren't like bench planes with their double irons, the cutter in a block plane goes in with the bevel facing the ceiling.
