The law on seat belts and alcohol are obeyed now by the vast majority of motorists,

Recent survey in London of Chelsea tractors showed a quite significant number NOt wearing seat-belts. Guess they reckon they're immortal..stuck all the way up there in the clouds.

Yes I will then. Research studies shows reaction times when using a mobile while driving is akin to being over the limit. Why do you think that doesn't apply to you?. Are you somehow physiologically superior to Mr Average in that respect?

This was the piece of news on AOL that I was referring to in the opening post.
I do agree that an electronic 'jamming' signal in the car seems a good way to prevent the driver from using a mobile, but does this also prevent passengers from using their phones? - Rob

Warning - a personal rant!

For those of us unlucky enough to even have witnessed the trauma of a road accident, let alone to have been a victim, the reality is extremely sobering - I know, because I have seen the gore and the splintered bone.

The next time some shallow a*****e spouts off about how it's perfectly safe to use a mobile while driving, or fiddle with their ICE or their bloody satnav, stop and think how you would really cope if you caused an accident. What if it was someone else did the same thing and injuring a loved one - you'd want justice then, wouldn't you (Corset)?

OK, I'm done (Backs away out of the door)

Ike - agree with all your comments re phones, sat navs et al. In my view, the only thing that a driver can do is drive - if I'm negotiating a particulary busy bit of road/motorway/city centre I even tell SWIMBO to quieten down (and that takes some doing) to allow me to concentrate on the driving - Rob

Some years ago, before the ban on using mobiles whilst driving, what was then known as the "Transport and Road Research Laboratory" at Bracknell concluded that a driver using even a hands free phone had a slower reaction time than a driver who had consumed two double whiskies.
