Colin the spacing of the 35mm hole from the edge of the door is governed by sereral things:

Door thickness
Door gap (on inset hinges)
edge radius of the door (if any)
Carcase thickness & plate hight

It is usually best to do a trial drilling but something in the region of 20-21mm from edge of door to center of hole is a good starting point.

For lay on doors the plate screw centers should be set back 37mm this is an industry standard and all draw runner, wirework etc uses the same backset.

For inset doors the usual way to determing the backset is to add the door thickness onto the 37mm so an 18mm MDF door will have the holes set back 55mm (18 +37)

In all cases the two holes are 32mm apart.

Have a look at these four pages on the woodfitsite, though it may confuse you even more

Jason's jig can be made more durable by drilling a 40mm hole and using a 40mm guide bush on the router, and a 35mm hinge bit, too.

For reference the installation drawings are on Page 4 of the Blum Tech Manual (under Installation Dimensions)

Dont you need a hinge bit made for a router to use one in router or do you use a normal bit :)
