I've been watching with envy, people recounting their boot sale hauls on here. I've never found anything a boots worth picking up.

Yesterday, I woke up early and suddenly decided to go to a sale about 3 miles away.

On 4 different stalls I found stuff.

My haul was:

2 X brass backed saws £1 each
stanely 102 £1.50
2 X woody shoulder planes 25p each
Spoke shave 40p

The works Cyber nanny will not allow me to "do" pictures.

One saw was a fairly modern (60s) spear & jackson (12") with a heavy back. I've stripped this down, cleaned and resharpened & set ( another first!!) and its works very nicely. I bought it mainy to practice sharpen & set, but think I have a decent saw too.

The other saw I'm really chuffed with - its not marked (named) but its a cute 8" one with very fine teeth - I'm not brave enough yet to tackle these - yet!

The block Plane is not a brilliant one but I aim to do it up and then use on rougher jobs thus saving my highly fettled block planes for fine work.

The woodies might end up being canabalised. The spokeshave is soaking in woodworm killer as I found a hole, but it ( the hole) looks old, then its going to a friend after a fettle up.

Hi, Lurker

Where did you say the sale was, just out of interest, I'm not planning to go my self :^o

Pete

p.s. nice one mate

Pete,

It was Quorn car boot. They have it every week - just outside Loughborough on the A6.
I've been there quite a few times and not seen anything worth looking at before.

Actually, I thought about you. There was a bloke there with a car full of planes, obviously a amateur dealer. I did not buy anything as mostly were stuff I already had I'm not a collector ](*,) I'm not a collector ](*,) I'm not a collector ](*,) .

However he did have a stay set record jointer which I wish now I'd bought (he wanted £40).

If that was a #07 in good condition, that's the low side of fair, although not a "bite his arm off" price.

Depends where you are - down here it's a dentally facilitated limb amputation and no messing about.

Cheers, Alf

Damn! you are just making me feel worse ain't you!! #-o

I WAS tempted, but SWMBO had given me a stern warning as I left the house.
I need to resist going back next week as I'm off to Boston next month and am saving cash and more importantly SWMBO goodwill for then.

My list for USA buys was quite modest, until Bean came round last night and started dragging me down a very steep section of the slope.

Hi, Lurker

£40 for a stay-set No7! thats worth a month in the doghouse.

You will have to come over some time and go the the Calverton car boot, thats where I have got all my bargains from, but I think the season is nearly over for this year, just the long nights in front of the fire polishing rust to come :)

Boston England or usa? I went to California earlier this year and poped in to see Ron Hock, he's a very nice chap.

Pete

Pete,

Boston England!! Good God!! once, never again

Obviously YOUR doghouse is more comfortable than mine!!!
