I am building (have built) a funky trolley for my twin motor drum DE and Dust Deputy (large) cyclone. It's great, and has an mdf dump box beneath the cyclone for the dust and shavings to drop into. It works great without a bag - really great, but with an Axy orange bag in the box, the bag gets sucked up to the bottom of the cyclone. The seal of the lid to the box , and the box itself is as airtight as I can get it - good fit with neoprene seal. All I can think I can do is to construct a frame to sit inside the bag - similar to how the cage on the bottom of the Record DX5000 works. The box dimensions are approx 450x300x600. Any ideas? I thought about welded mesh, but don't know if it will be strong enough - there's quite some suck.
Something like this, perhaps (don't know how I would make it, though - no welding gear... tie-wraps?

This happens with the big extractor too when you fit a plastic bag, the common solution is to have a bit of 2x4 that goes in first.

Have you got any pictures of your Dust Deputy, I'd love to see it hooked up.

Looking forward to it!

How about some standard chicken wire type bent around into the shape you want?

would a brick in the bottom of the bag do it or would it just keep coming in from the sides

My DX5000 is so powerful with both motors running it sucked in the metal cage when I got something stuck.
I now keep a thick piece of wood inside the cage as a strut.

And the solution...

Take one of these (didn't rob the wife's - went and bought a new one, £9.99)...

Apply a little lateral thinking and turn it into one of these...

Yes, it does need all the struts.. I tried it for a start without the wooden blocks, bottom and side struts, and it pulled the side cages in so they nearly touched. The bag still billows a bit around the bars, but it's fine.

It fits into this...

which just fits under the end of my bench...

The base stand and cyclone I got from corset - the cyclone was mounted on a 200l barrel, and that together with the dx5000 on the stand took up half my garage... I needed to do something smaller with it... The blue twin motor DE I already had and is made by Yorkleen, and surprisingly delivers LOTS more suck than the Dx5000 (probably too much), so I have decided to stick with it, despite me preferring the bag option of the Record. There's also a little removeable Lexan window in the top of the dump box so I can monitor how full it's getting.

Don't put a cage inside the bag - it's never done on professional machines
You need a balance hose (or depressor hose)
this links the bottom of the collection bin with the dirty air chamber above (before the filters) It equalizes the pressure inside and outside the bag
A bit of garden hose should do it. Some machines have an open grid laid in the bottom of the bin as well
Air is leaking in behind your bag - have another look at the seals and bin clamping

Very impressive solution, and great looking DC. So what is the separation like on the cyclone?

The footprint of this combo is 800mm x 600mm. That's the beauty of it - my shop is small too.

I am so jealous. I wish I had the guts to look at building a set up like this.
Well done to you. Chris

I have a space under the stairs, about 1 cubic metre. Is that going to be big enough for a unit? I am sick of having to wear masks and goggles (The latter steam up!)

Funny you should say that. I bought some of the Axminster ones and they are hopeless for steaming up. I even drilled some vent holes in the top but they still do it. I have some that came with some DeWalt kit and they are great.
