Hi everybody!

I'm original of Italy and I've started a new life here in the UK from some months.
I am a newbie in what concerns the woodworking because in Italy I was producing printable piece of art and helping my prof of Ecodesign on her work.

I really like the wood, especially if it have to be recycled and here I desire to shape it in new forms ^_^

I'm sorry for my english of outsider and I hope that I'll be understood in spite of this.

Kisses to all of you!

Drusilla

Hi Drusilla

Welcome to the forum and your English is perfect!

Recycling and restoration of old wood and wooden pieces is near to my heart and anyone who thinks the same way is ok as far as I am concerned.

You have picked a fine forum...loads of helpful and nice people here...

Jim

Hello Drusilla, A very warm welcome (although the weathers very cold)
Which Ryton are you at? The one in the north east is very near me

Hi jimi43,

happy to meet you ^_^
Today I was just working on a reproduction of a wild feline using a plywood blank derived from a stock discarded by a factory. This has been my first approach to the woodworking and I really enjoyed it but is not finished because it needs to be sanded and protected.
Surely we will keep in contact in the future ;-)

Hi Alan Jones,

we may be neibourgh, it's fantastic! I'm living near the Old Town of Ryton.

I'm having problem to find a phisical wood shop in this zone and I haven't found a place that is selling chisels stand alone. Please, may you suggest a good place where they are selling it?

On the 20 November I'll go to see "The north of England Woodworking & power tool show" at the Great Yorkshire showground, Harrogate . Are you planning to go there as well?

Thank you all for the hospitality :-*

welcome!!! :) any pictures of your work especially the plywood cat, sounds interesting

Hello and welcome Drusilla, I'll be going to the Harrogate show, probably on the Leeds College of Art stand on the Saturday

Hello and welcome Drucilla. I am sure you will soon feel at home here. I would also like to see some pics of your work.

Hi Drusilla

I also live not too far away, (near Morpeth in Northumberland) and I know Ryton well. The village is a nice place to live and nearby to all the facilities.

I also plan to visit Harrogate show but probably will be Friday 19th. You might wish to visit John Boddy at Boroughbridge on your way to the show :- http://www.john-boddys-fwts.co.uk/ they sell a good range of tools and hardwoods.

There are unfortunately very few good tool shops in the Northeast area and I buy most of mine online now. In the summer months however, there are several large boot sales close to you (Corbridge and Chester-le-street come to mind and there used to be one every Sunday at Blaydon rugby ground), where used tools can often be bought cheaply.

For wood, you could try :- Hexamshire Hardwoods, Old School Whitley Chapel, Hexham, Northumberland NE47 0HB - Tel 01434 673528 or F H Thompson, Factory Road, Blaydon tel 0191 4990444.
If you are looking for free stuff then try the factories at Blaydon and Team valley where you might get ply and hardwood pallets.

Geordies are suckers for a sweet smile and Italian accent so you should have no problem

Your excellent english puts me to shame. We have just returned from a holiday in Italy (our 4th time there) and we still have not made an attempt to learn your language

You must be very cold here, when we left Italy 2 weeks ago the temperature there was 23 degrees.

Bob

Hello friends,

I'm glad to not feeling alone anymore here, in this physical piece of the UK. My past home was in Milan and there the sun was more shy than here; believe me or not, I can tell you that the predominant colour of that city was the GREY...
Strangely, however, here seems to be more cold than my previous smoked city, because of the rampant, strong wind (BRRRR!!!).

Talking about my work, I really prefer to finish it before to show it, so, I think that it will appear to your eyes with some more delay.

I want especially thank Lons for the precious information that he gave me in his post. It will be really helpful for my next works. I'm grateful to you and I'm sorry that probably we won't meet at the Harrogate Show but, for sure I'll follow your suggestion, visiting John Boddy.

See you all.

Drusilla.

Drusilla.

We were in Tuscany for 1 week then Garda & Venice 1 week. We flew home from Milan (Bergamo airport) on 8th October and the temperature was 23 degrees there :)

Hi Drusilla as Bob (Lons) has already said theres not a lot in the way of good quality woodworking tools available locally.
There is a shop at Bedlington Station called Keenleysides that stock a varied range but mainly woodturning (about 30mins from you)
Cleveland woodcraft are at Middlesborough (a little over an hour) and have a much better range , but mainly power tools.
I will also be going to Harrogate on either the Saturday or Sunday so theres a free lift available if you want it :)

Hi Drusilla

Welcome to the forum! The people on here are so helpful, you will learn loads.

I also love to recycle things, my last project was turning a palet into a house for a tortoice... turned out really well. Keep up the good work

Hi Drusilla, I can understand just how you feel! Your English is a heck of a lot better than my French! And I have to admit that after 6 years here in France my English spelling is worse than it ever was!

Welcome to the forum. There is a mountain of knowledge on here and everyone is so very willing to help in every way, not just with woodworking either..

I too look forward to seeing your work, but don't be pressured into showing it. Just when yu are ready!! :D :D

Hi Alan

keenleysides aren't much good now unfortunately. I was there a couple of months ago and the woodturning / woodworking bit has gone.

They did have quite a bit of timber in stock still but wasn't particularly cheap (they used to buy it in from Boddy's) and a very limited range of tooling bits left over.

They're basically a small DIY again now and not worth the visit IMO

cheers

Bob

Thanks for the update Bob, I was only there once about three years ago and wasnt overly impressed then :(
Theres a big B&Q diy store just off Scotswood Road (15 mins) if its just basic stuff your after Drusilla
