Morning all.
As a carpenter I'm a great bonfire fuel maker, but I've had an idea rattling around the old brainpan for a while for a "nice little something" for my significant other, she has been looking at writing slopes on e-bay, so I thought to myself "Mmmm, I could do one of them". I think however I may have bitten off more than I can chew, but as the saying goes "nothing ventured nothing gained" I'm gonna have a go.
All I have is the raw material and lots of enthusiasm, I'm planning on using all reclaimed timber (money being tight and my wallet being tighter), I've never yet drawn plans for projects, they all come from within so it may be a pile of scrap in the making.
If anyone out there has any ideas where I can source the hardware I would be really grateful for comments.
Thank you in advance.
Steve.

Looking forward to the replies to this one as I have exactly the same problem. Job's sitting on the bench whilst I try to source suitable hinges etc.

nothing special required, go look in an antique shop - small brass butt hinges for the box and its lid, internally the slope has 2 sometimes 3 small brass butt hinges .

Only "special"item would be the sciver to be glued down on the slope to make a comfortable writing surface.

google writing slopes - pictures and it will be made even clearer.

Now me hs, I'm an awkward type. The type of hinge I'm looking for has a small chain or wire passing through it to prevent a box lid opening too far.
The slope I'm making has a box lid type top then the next level opens to form one half of the writing surface.
Told you I was awkward!

I Googled Rutlands and found just the sort of hinge I wanted, at £25 a pair!!!
Shortly before coming up with an excuse to the wife as to why the idea was dead I went back to Googling, two other suppliers at under a fiver a pair. Same with some brass hinges for the rule joint on the drop leaf table I'm working on.

I have IB, but unfortunately that didn't help with the hinges I needed.

Hi Digit
Now I see what it is you need, I found something on ebay if you have access to it.
Type in code 370154173037 in the search box, hope this helps and I hope this doesn't qualify as spam.

You will need to check you have enough 'meat' to form the recess to hide the quadrant restraint.
Possibly ok in a jewelry box where the lid and the base can share the problem but maybe more of an issue in a writing slope?

Bob

Far too large Bob. I've found a supplier who do what I want in cast brass at about a fiver the pair, and they include dimensions in their ad, so I'll be checking your points with their drawing before I order anything.
