I empathise completely with your feelings about your woodwork.
However, at my stage in life I want to make the most of what time is left to me. So if I can find a quicker and less painful way of doing something, I regard it as a valid method. After all the job doesn't care what tools/equipment fashioned it. As long as the job is done well, and not deigned merely so a machine can be used, I think that's okay.
At the same time, if I believe a hand-tooled joint is appropriate, necessary and the best way in the circumstances, then I will put up with a bit of discomfort, staying at the bench longer, in order to do it.
Yes one of those machines would be nice, but:
a) I don't employ myself as a woodworker.
b) I haven't room for one
c) The price is prohibitive
d) I have enough machines anyhow.
e) Well, that's about it really!
