Some advice if a Mod is around. I posted some items that may be of interest on here, but it looks to have been deleted, got a message saying its cos it needs to be in the for sale section, but you cant post in that without at least 20 other posts apparently.

A message I received from someone on here interested but also I cant reply to as it says I need to be more active.

A message I receievd saying my post has been moved and to follow a link, when I click that link it says Im not authorised to go there...

All very difficult..for someone new here.. If this isnt the sort of forum that wants people advertising a lifetimes items and kit, then fair enough... But can someone just tell me that, or help me out with how to do things correctly? But just seems like your blocked at every turn at the moment...

Thanks in advance

Craig - hi and welcome to the forum. I'm sure a Mod will be along in a bit (maybe tomorrow now) to give you proper guidance, but certainly there is great interest in old tools on the forum. It's worth getting involved in the Hand Tools part, especially if you have any specific questions about your Father-in-law's tools.

Jump in, we're a friendly lot.

Craig, dip into the forum and make a few posts. The rule is to stop spammers making one off posts I think.

The forum is indeed a friendly and supportive place. There was a lot of debate before the For Sale section was introduced and the decisions were made that it was a facility for established forum members, not a public small ads service and that it was only for selling your own stuff.

The powers that be have rules. The mods merely follow them.

market-place-guidelines-please-read-before-posting-05-02-13-t54359.html

and probably most relevant ...

11 – Ownership.
All items offered for sale must be the property of the seller or family member. Items offered for sale belonging to a friend, acquaintance or the postman's 3rd cousin once removed are not acceptable as are posts concerning sales, auctions or offers elsewhere. Such posts will be deleted without notification. This board was created solely for the use of our members as a means to dispose of surplus Workshop items and as a facility for members to find Workshop Equipment. If a member is in any doubt about posting please refer to a member of the moderating team.

With the amount of moderating done it is not viable to enter into discussions with each and every infraction, which can at times seem a tad short but unfortunately thats the way it is.

Looking at the logs it would seem a moderator sent a notification of the removal via PM, the wording of the message is partially system generated so may not have been a very full explanation.

Unfortunately the forum has been subjected in the past to a rash of individuals abusing the forum rules by claiming family ownership of items they were trading on first post, hence the 20 post rule to enable moderator vetting of genuine membership.

Unfortunately sometimes a genuine situation falls foul of this requirement and leads to frustration but it is the only way we can endeavour to prevent the site from being abused as an easy option, no fees, auction or trading site.

Thank you for not abusing the site by making spurious posts just to meet the 20 post hurdle, which would more than likely have resulted in them being deleted or membership blocked.

I get the point of protection from spammers. and the family rule, (which this is as its my father in law, which is clearly states in the advert)..

In truth I thought I would try here as the father in law wants his stuff to go to someone who will use it, not just trade it.. This seemed like the sort of place that fitted the bill (I myself have no interest in it, not my thing, nor will it ever be) after looking at several sites.
However it looks not to be, you have your rules, which are fine... but Im not an enthusiast, Ted (the father In Law) is, but he wont use the internet..

Ill go elsewhere.... Been a frustrating experience, appreciate some of the responses... But this is a favour for an in law, not a lifes mission for me. His stuff will get broken up and listed on Ebay, pity but he wants it all gone.. doesnt want it there as a reminder I think...

Goodbye
