How to remove damp stains?

Hi,

On my narrowboat, I have some damp stains on some oak ply walls. On one of the walls, I sanded it back which removed the stain but unfortunately damaged the veneer to the point where I had to paint over it. What I did learn from this though is that the stain does not go through the entire wood.

I have so far tried oxalic acid without success. Is there anything else I can do? Replacing the wall would be an issue because behind it is a shower with decorative tiles.

oxalic acid you would think would do the job . I have used mould and mildew blaster for same type symptoms with good results. spray leave a while , wipe off. dont let it get on your clothing tho its like raw bleach.

If you can sand back to clean wood, iron on veneer might be the answer.
I've no experience - it's just something I have read about on here - but it might be practical.

The problem you have is moisture related, most likely from the shower behind. I would guess failed grout or mastic joint. Fix this first or the problem will just re-occur. This is week point in most narrow boat designs. Over board with 4mm veneered ply. You will not remove the stain. I’ve done this repair more times than I care to recall.
