I don't mean an actual table type thing. I mean something thats no more than 4 inches off the floor. 2x4 underframe with MDF top and skirt around the sides. I've seen Thomas McDonald using them for his furniture pieces and they look good. I'll post a picture once done.

Chems; having now seen the photograph, I'm still confident that this dent will steam out, as it's softwood. It might take two or three attempts but, I do reckon it will disappear eventually. 8)

Do you really? Thing is thats just the biggest one, there are a couple of other other smaller ones from the impact, and what effect will the steam have on the lacquer?

I've got to take it apart tomorrow to get it on the bed so I will just replace it then. It will be easier for me, I've never done steaming.

Ah, right, I forgot about the lacquer! You're going to have to cut it back somehow... You could try stripping the finish with something like Nitromors or Rustins' Strypit... Otherwise, you have to fit one of your sanders with some coarse-grit paper. Trouble there is that it may clog quite easily. :?

This still seems like the better option to me and, it's something else for you to try and learn. If it does go wrong then, you can still look at buying more wood to re-make the top without putting the whole thing through the bandsaw.

If it wasn't for the coats of lacquer though, I reckon those dents would still be much worse! :D

Have you got your shelf-problem sorted yet?

I've got the wood to do it, and I'll replace it tomorrow, then I'll try an remove the dent when nothings riding on it.

I've got the shelf problem sorted as it was the floor that was the issue, so I was able to use my sash cramps to pull everything into alignment to get the screws in. Now I have my super skateboard I'm set to carry on.
