I assumed that I could just buy some form of adapter to go from my 36mm Lidl wet and dry vac to connect to 100mm outlets but I have spent a while looking at the Axminster site and can't see how it can be done.
So any help would be very gratefully received.
Cheers

With extraction systems the norm :norm: is to step down in hose diameter the farther you get from the fan-you might be asking too much of that little shop vac to be drawing much through a 100mm hose/pipe. :-k

Camvac do a multi step connector - have a look at their website for their universal adapter, but there are no actual sizes shown.

The easy way to do this is to buy a universal car cv boot kit from your local car parts shop but as said already there will be a massive drop in suction but it may be a cheap way to try.

Shop Vac's are HPLV (high pressure low volume) in other words they don't move a lot of air. Extractors that utilise 100mm + diameter pipe are HVLP (high volume low pressure. Even if you can connect the two the vacuum simply won't move enough air to be effective.

You might be able to attach a 63mm pipe directly from the body of your vac (with a bit of ingenuity) and link that to 63mm/2.5in pipework and get passable performance. I did this previously with an old Wickes vacuum and used it on my bandsaw, router table and hand held tools to good effective. Actually opening the vac body up to 63mm improved the airflow dramatically.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if you give us a bit more detail of what you are trying to achieve then hopefully we can help.

Yes. Won 't work. Don't bother. You'd need several vacs connected in parallel to have any effect.

Many thanks for the replies.
I have just unscrewed the hose from the main body of the vac and the thread that is left is around 63mm so I am wondering if I can get a 63mm hose to screw on instead to avoid a bodge which might damage the thread.
Thanks for the mention for the camvac site. They seem to stock a universal adapter that looks like the one that Axminster stock and has got poor reviews as it has external diameters such 100mm which should be internal so that they fit over the equipment. From the reviews " Each of the steps is the same diameter as the outlets of the machines and fits neither internally nor externally." But maybe some form of coupler with 100mm internal diameter would fix that problem.
Thanks for enlightening me on the way home vacs and proper woodworking systems work, I was trying to rig up something to connect to the 100mm outlets on my newly bought planer thicknesser and spindle moulder.
Looks like I will have to research proper systems , I was just trying to avoid additional expense.
Cheers
PS just read Jacobs' post while I was writing my reply, thanks.

Exactly what I did and yes a 63mm pipe will fit (with minor surgery or liberal amounts of duct tape). You will then be able to run extract from machines like router table and bandsaw as I did but anything that produces a lot of waste ie planer or the like will clog the pipe or fill vac body rather rapidly. It really is a very temporary step as you will also find that anything that produces a lot of dust will quickly clog the vac filters thus reducing it's efficiency dramatically.

Sadly good workshop extraction is neither simple nor cheap, sad but true.

Search the site and you will see countless threads that will help.

Camvac's are good (twin motored version) and I have a Record equivalent (DX4000) plus a cyclone and 4in ducting. Works well with all main machines and stepped down in size and one motor running is good for sanders etc. It was the best compromise I found that suited all my machines with the only drawback being noisy brush motors.

Hope this helps.

You could keep the lidl vac for sanders etc
Then just use this for chippings with your machines
